Minister of State for Education- Give Warning that FG Has Not Fixed Date For Resumption of Schools ((5/5/2020)
During this lockdown, The Federal Government has said that it has not fixed any date for the resumption of school nationwide despite the announcement of gradual ease of the lockdown in Lagos, FCT, and Ogun State by President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday.
The information was disclosed by the Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, on Tuesday in Abuja at the 21st joint national briefing of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19. Base on this, the Federal Ministry of Education could not give any date now when schools would be resuming across the country until when Mr. President review it.
Furthermore, He also explained that the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has not been canceled yet for those people who are giving false news about it, its external examinations as students will still have to go and take them when the government is sure that students are no longer in danger of contracting the virus.
Risking children we be more when schools re-opening which the federal government is not ready for. we cannot foresee or immediately tell you when all the schools will be reopened. “It will not be proper for us to simply give you a date. It has to be in tandem with these opening terms. We don’t want to put our children at risk. None of these schools can function on their own without society.
This will go on until we are sure that they are equipped for the external examinations. The West African Examinations Council has not canceled their external exams. It was postponed indefinitely. “This indefinite nature is so that we can get a definite date. Students will still have to go and take those exams when we are sure that we have taken good care of the pupils.” He stated.

Tertiary Institution should Resume Academic Session by Online Teaching (e-learning) Says ” Nigeria Federal Minister of Education”
To maintain the stability of Nigeria Education during this period of COVID 19, Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Education directed tertiary institutions in the country to resume online teaching also known as E-learning. This became imperative because of the uncertainty over the resumption of normal academic activities amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The directive emanated from a teleconference the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, had with vice-chancellors, rectors and provosts of universities, polytechnics and colleges of education on the continuation of learning through virtual platforms.
Heads of key educational agencies where present during the Teleconference, whose names are,
- The Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Abubakar Rasheed;
- The Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education, Dr. Masa’udu Adamu Kazaure;
- The Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission, Dr. Hamid Bobboyi;
- The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and Prof. Ishaq Oloyede among others partook in the teleconference base on the E-learning introduction.
However, it is not known how much thinking went into the directive because of the obvious constraints that afflict such a decision from the beginning. First, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is on strike and second, the higher institutions in the countries are sadly deficient in ICT infrastructure.
On the first constraint, the minister expressed optimism that the government would do its best to resolve the labor crisis. He was perhaps equally buoyed by the readiness of some vice-chancellors of private universities who claimed that they have a top-grade virtual learning system, and hope of seeking the World Bank and UNICEF assistance on creating platforms for virtual learning classrooms.
The conclusion of the meeting was not really accepted by some heads Key of Education sector saying the ideal of E-learning In Nigeria will really be a process or problem.
Do you think we should embark on online learning? Are you against the decision of Nigeria federal minister of Education on E-learning? if so kindly drop your comment in our comment box below because it will help.
2020 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination known has JAMB returned N3.5 billion to the Federation Account from the excess generated from its operations during the conduct of (JAMB)
The board said it had earlier returned N3.5b to the government following the sales of e-PINs to UTME candidates, bringing the total remittances this year by the board to N7 billion.
The board pledged to make further remittance to the government as soon as its operations are concluded and proper audit of its books done. JAMB’s Head of Media and Information, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, disclosed these in a statement on Sunday in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
Last year, the board returned N5 billion to the government coffers but was later asked to keep N2 billion to enhance its operations by the government.
According to the statement, the remittances were in line with the Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede’s avowed commitment to remit wholly, excess funds generated from its operations to the federal government.
It added that the board was able to return the excess to the government coffers despite the reduction in the cost of ePIN sold to candidates from N5000 to N3, 500 as directed by President Muhammadu Buhari last year.
Over 1.9 million candidates wrote this year’s examination, making it the highest in the history of the board so far.
It reads: “The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board(JAMB) has made an interim remittance of N3.5b to the Federal Government consolidated account for the 2020 expected remittance in line with Prof. Is-haq Oloyede’s avowed commitment to remit wholly, excess funds generated from its operations to the federal government.
“It had earlier made the payment of over N3.5b to candidates by way of reduction of N1,500 from the cost of each ePIN sold to each candidate as graciously directed by Mr. President totaling over N3.5b bringing the total remittances this year to over N7b with the assurance to remit more as soon as its operations are concluded and proper audit of its books done.”
The statement explained that it’s the intension of the board to return to government coffers excess funds made from its operations.“From the outset, it had been the intention of the present leadership of the board to return to federal coffers, whatever is left unutilized from its operational imperatives.
“The immediate benefit of the move manifested in the reduction by President Muhammadu Buhari of the UTME Registration fee payable by candidates from N5000 to N3500 which entails the transfer of over N3b to candidates and guardians annually via the reduction in the cost of application documents.
“Before the reduction in the cost of application e-PINs, the board had remitted over N7b in 2017 and replicated the same in subsequent years until the gracious action by the Buhari administration’s unprecedented decision to give back to candidates a percentage of the cost of registration.
“To sustain the gesture, the board will continue to come up with innovations on ways to ensure that candidates are provided with world-class services at modest cost as obtained anywhere in the world,” the statement added.
