The Wells Fargo Scholarship for People with Disabilities, now called the Wells Fargo Stacey Milbern Scholarship, helps students with disabilities pay for undergraduate study at an accredited two-year or four-year college or university in the United States.
Applications are currently closed, and the next round is expected to open in February 2027.
Wells Fargo renamed the program in 2024 in honor of Stacey Park Milbern, a disability justice activist and former Wells Fargo employee who died in 2020. Scholarship America administers it.
Being disabled does not mean everything in this life is over. You can build a full life and a career, just as anyone else can.
Many scholarships have academic requirements that a disability can make harder to meet, because it may affect a student in the classroom and on tests. This one still requires a minimum 3.0 GPA, so check that you meet it before you spend time on the application.

Eligibility Requirements Wells Fargo Scholarship For People with Disabilities
To apply, you must meet all of these requirements:
- Have an identified disability. Scholarship America defines this as someone who has, or considers themselves to have, a long-term or recurring condition that impacts one or more major life activities. You do not need a learning disability specifically.
- Have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale, or the equivalent.
- Be a high school senior or graduate, or a current undergraduate, who plans to enroll or is already enrolled in undergraduate study at an accredited two-year or four-year college or university in the United States for the entire upcoming academic year.
- Study full-time or half-time. Half-time means at least 6 credits per term.
- Be a US citizen or legal resident currently living in the USA.
Only the first 700 completed applications received will be considered, so submit early. Some scholarship listing sites describe the award as limited to hearing, learning, physical or visual disabilities. Scholarship America’s own eligibility page uses the broader definition above, so follow its wording when the application opens.
What the Scholarship Pays
- Full-time students receive $2,500 and half-time students receive $1,250.
- Full-time awards can be renewed for up to three more years. Half-time awards can be renewed for up to seven years, or until you earn a bachelor’s degree, whichever comes first.
- Renewal depends on keeping a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5.
- Awards are for undergraduate study only.
How Recipients Are Selected
Scholarship America selects recipients based on:
- Academic record
- Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
- Honors
- Work experience
- Statement of educational and career goals
- An essay answering the question “What life experiences have shaped who you are today?”
You must also demonstrate financial need, as calculated by Scholarship America. Not every applicant is selected, and you can reapply each year you remain eligible.
Document Needed To Upload When Applying For Wells Fargo Scholarship
If you’re applying, make sure you upload the following before you submit:
- A current, complete transcript of grades. Scholarship America does not accept ordinary grade reports. The transcript must show your name, your school’s name, your grades, and the credit hours and term for each course.
- Official SAT or ACT scores, if you are submitting them. Upload them separately if they are not listed on your high school transcript. They are not required if you upload a college transcript.
Your application is not complete until all required documents are submitted electronically.
How To Apply For Wells Fargo Scholarship
- Confirm that you meet the eligibility requirements above.
- Open the official Wells Fargo Stacey Milbern Scholarship page and click “Remind Me” to be told when the program opens.
- Prepare your transcript and write your essay before the application opens.
- Apply as soon as the application opens, because it closes once 700 completed applications are received.
- Use a personal email address that you will keep, not a school or work address. Scholarship America sends notifications by email, so add studentsupport@scholarshipamerica.org and the program address as safe senders.
